What Does an Educational Technician Do?

Key Responsibilities
- Provide instructional support, especially in math and reading, to small groups or individual students
- Assist students with special needs following Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or behavioral plans
- Monitor and help maintain a positive classroom environment
- Collect and document student progress data
- Supervise students in various locations such as classrooms, hallways, and outdoor recess areas
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and personal information
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to support student learning and behavior
- Complete required training and certification programs as needed
Qualifications & Skills Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of at least 2 years post-secondary education or equivalent (60 credit hours) in an educationally related field preferred
- (Preferred) Completion of 3 years post-secondary education or equivalent (90 credit hours)
- Valid Teaching Certification preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of learning processes, especially in math and reading instruction
- Ability to work with diverse learners, including students with special needs
- Patience, adaptability, and ability to multitask in dynamic environments
- Commitment to student privacy and ethical standards
Physical & Environmental Conditions
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling
- Occasional lifting or moving of materials up to 25 lbs
- Ability to assist students with mobility or behavioral needs
- Mostly indoor work with some outdoor duties during recess or bus duty
- Must maintain a calm, professional demeanor in stressful situations
